Marjan Ghorbani (b. 1990, Tehran) is a visual artist based in Tehran. She began her studies in graphic design and received her B.A. in Painting from Azad University of Tehran. Although drawing is her primary medium, her practice is not confined to a single form; depending on the concept of each project, she also works with painting, installation, photography, and video. Her artistic path is rooted in inquiry and research—posing critical questions about the body and memory, social and political structures, and the relationship between personal and collective experience. For her, art is a platform to challenge the way we perceive the world around us. Her interest in philosophy and sociology has given her works a research-oriented character. They are not merely representations, but explorations into the hidden layers of reality: from fractured memories and silenced moments to invisible structures and dynamics of power. Her drawings function like maps of the human interior and exterior, while her installations and videos create spaces that confront the audience with unresolved questions—questions that invite them to rethink assumptions and their position in the world. For Marjan, art is a process of questioning, resistance, and rethinking. She is always in search of the moment of encounter—when the viewer finds themselves entangled with the work and compelled to see the surrounding world anew. To her, art is a form of excavation: into memory, power, and human relations; a space to link personal narratives with collective concerns, and to open a ground for reflection and dialogue.
